When I first was starting out as an artworker I worked nights (total nightmare) and were it not for Jason I'd have just whined and bitched about my job and the clients it attracts. He pushed me every step of the way and taught me everything he knew. My attitude to work beforehand was that I always knew rightand my clients were always wrong. He taught me to be tempered, how to use type to good effect anf above all to trust my instincts.
Now I know he plays it down but because of his guidance and his attitude to work I turned out to be not half bad at being a meticulous and typographically sound artworker.
Since then I've moved to London and I'm looking for a new job and hopefully I'll meet someone like Jason or myself so that I can pay it forward. Without Jason I would not be where I am today. FACT!

Hadn't got that news over here, or if I had, I sadly forgot. Fond memories of Mr Holness and Blockbuster after school but before tea. So yes I do fit firmly into the age bracket you mention!! Bring back Blockbusters but with a good presenter (don't give it to Vernon Kay please!!)

Disappointed I didn't see this exhibition. I saw a news bulletin about it and thought it looked fascinating. Thanks for posting more pics - the egg looks beautiful. In the news bulletin they also showed footage of a young man's funeral which looked beautiful. Very un-British, full of lovely things celebrating the fact that he had been alive. Family, friends and loved ones all very involved, supporting each other in grief, celebration and thankfulness for his having been a part of their lives. I don't remember what type of coffin he had - not quite as "original" as these, but I recall seeing them tying ribbon onto it. Respect for the dead doesn't have to mean stiff upper lip and black all the way.

And I agree with Rachel - it is a shame so many of those beautiful creations will "disappear".

A former boss of mine, advised me to give customers no more than three choices. More than that like you say just blows people's ability to choose. Having said that I always find it difficult to find exactly the specification I am after. Maybe the customisation should be done in levels or optional add ons.

I don't know if you have heard of:
www.lovelypackage.com

I think you will really like some of the stuff they have up on there.
You have to love packaging design, I think it is one of the most amazing area of design as there is a real hands-on feel to everything. Really want to get stuck into packaging design but who knows where to begin.

Also after seeing your love of the NYC pasta, you may love this set of cheese pencils:

Hope you like...

What a fascinating exhibition. In my case, none of this would apply as I shall donate my body to Science. However, I must point out that pyramids and carved stone tombs in cathedrals and churches are there for hundred and hundred of years for mankind to admire. But, unfortunately, the above exhibits - very creative and original I must say - will "disappear" from view!

I have to admit when I first set up the Keep Calm-o-matic site I really didn't know whether it was going to be popular or not. I'd seen a few variants on 'keep calm' and wanted an easy way to create my own. I never expected people would have created 250,000+ posters in only 3 years.

I agree that to a certain extent it's probably gone waaaay past it's sell by date. But I do think the original slogan (before it got commercialised) did chime with the sense of uncertainty that these times bring.

I'll be going to the Royal Festival Hall this Saturday so I'll be interested to go and take a look. Mind you, for £300 a night, aren't they chucking in some breakfast?!
